Are we able to change energy supplier?

Hi,
I know it’s not advisable to change energy suppliers however, EON are charging us 14p per kWh for Gas whereas EDF and OVO are charging 10p per kWh. Should or would we be able to switch?

  • You can switch if you can find a supplier that will take you.

Are you on the standard variable tariff? - if so, E.ON are charging you exactly the same price as EdF and OVO.

Is this a fix which has been reduced by the EPG but is still coming up higher because of the level of the original prices? If so, check for exit fees as I think you're now past the point where you can opt out of a fix FOC in that situation with most providers.

  • I’d double check your bill as E.ON Next apply the EPG as a credit rather than a reduction to the unit price.

EOn appear to quote an actual tariff and then apply a discount. There is a possibility that a very expensive fix might - after the maximum electric / gas discount can be above the nominal EPG rates (34/10.3). But it could just be they are saying their nominal tariff rate would be 14p - but actually giving you the difference as a discount. As stewie_griffin says - EOn seem to do it as a discount. Check the section of the bill working out cost from units - and see if thay have added lines like Energy Price Guarantee xx kWh @ y.y p/kWh -£z.zz
