TV from Tesco on the blink

My M-I-L bought a TV from tesco about 6 months ago ( not sure of brand etc as I need to pop over and see her ), she's saying that the tv makes such a bad noise she can only watch programmes with subtitles.

I'm going to try and reset to factory settings in case she's changed something - but if that doesn't solve the problem is Tesco my first port of call, or the manufacturer?

Thanks

Your consumer rights are always with the retailer, not the manufactuer.

It'll be important to work out if its under or over 6 months old, if its under its assumed faults are inherent unless the retailer can prove otherwise whereas if its over 6 months old you can be asked to prove its an inherent fault.

Alter the sound settings first, a lot of modern flat screen tv's have hopeless sound quality. Which is why soundbars were invented.
If it's a Tesco badged-up brand like Technika, then don't get your hopes up.

'Own brand' products are generally made in the same factories and on the same production lines as the named brands.  There is no reason to automatically assume the own brand goods are rubbish.

Though some named brand items are rubbish. Plus being made in the same factory as X doesnt mean its made to the same standard as X... those that manufacture for others often have a wide range of qualities on offer and its not always just one of their own models rebanded and in new clothes.

Agree its not right to automatically assume anything but that works both ways.
