I am pleased that your take on the reply from Sparky is that it was harshly worded - thank you. The previous owners of our bungalow had this treatment done in 2001, we moved in 2006 (survey didn't highlight roof as a problem). Having done some research I've found that the company who put it in is now in business removing it !!!

As SparkyGrad has said, to the extent that you have any complaint at all, given that you have not actually had a problem with a mortgage so you are dealing with a theoretical problem, the only liability you have to rely on is that of your surveyor at the time.
Depending on the type of survey you had done and the fact that in 2006 this wasn't impacting on availability of a mortgage, even your surveyor may have no liability in this matter.
With everything else you have going on right now this doesn't feel like it is going to be a productive use of your time, but that is of course your decision to make...
