eonnext energy price increase

Hi, wonder if anyone can comment on a price increase letter.
I was sent a letter (by email) on 23 Sept stating that prices were going to increase soon (surprise!), but the strange thing was that the rate increases quoted in the letter didn't seem to be as high as I was expecting; Elec (day) 32p/kWh -> 42/kWh, Gas 7.2p/kWh -> 10.2p/kWh.
Of course when the first statement arrives, the rates specified are different; Elec @ 57p/kwh (day), 30p/kwh (night), Gas @ 13.9p/kwh
Eon Next Flex variable, Direct Debit, in midlands.
Not exactly surprising, but where do I stand in terms of consumer rights as far as them writing to me detailing these lower rates and then charging me something completely different?
Presumably they can do what they want and I'm screwed like everyone else, or...?
Always worth a punt!
Cheers

The rates went up 1st Oct as per the price cap, seems they quoted the pre-October price (since it was still September). Are you sure they haven't sent you more recent email with the post October prices?
Presumably you had been on a fixed previously, when did that finish?0 -
Doesn't the statement also include the adjustment from those gross rates down to a lower net price, by virtue of the energy price guarantee? Mine shows 49.15p for electricity, minus 17p EPG for an effective net rate of 32.15p, and similarly for gas 14.003p - 4.22p = 9.783p

Looks like you have economy 7 pricing, given day & night mentioned. Which is not quoted in the letter.
Would be better in energy section.

Have been on Eon Next variable deal by default since Igloo went bust Oct 2021.eskbanker said:Doesn't the statement also include the adjustment from those gross rates down to a lower net price, by virtue of the energy price guarantee? It is quoted in letter, sorry was not clear - I was just giving examples of the prices quoted:
Perhaps would be better in energy category - didn't see that when I posted. Is there a way of moving the thread?

Am guessing they just estimated rates based on EPG and have not made that clear in letter.0

It took weeks for most suppliers to work out what was actually going on with the EPG.
What matters is how much you have actually been charged. If you have been charged the same (or less) than the letter, then you don't really have anything to complain about anyway.
I doubt that you have actually been paying 57/30p for electricity or 14p for gas.
Look at your bill and find out what it has actually cost you.0 -
Agreed, mostly likely garbled messaging from Eon given the confusing situation.
Will check statement breakdown and see how it calculates, thanks.0 -
Looks like your revised rate letter was like mine - was based on the NET you will actually pay.Your day rate went up 10p - your night rate - actually went down c3p.One heavy night user posting here now claiming significantly better off as a result. You may even find that you bill quotes the formal tariff rates - and then discounts these by 17p.SoDay Use xx units @ tariffEnergy Price Guar xx units @ 17p discountWorse still on my October (monthly) bill - they actually used the tariff rates - to calc annual cost estimate -which was therefore several £100s higher than the new rates email (letter) estimate - it seems to have lowered back in Nov though.0

I think this was just the combination of slow release of letters and fast-moving changes at that time. I also got the September letter, which arrived several weeks after it's heading date. By that time the prices had changed again.
Perhaps a smart ambulance chaser lawyer could make something of it, but in my book we are being helped hugely by the price-cap, so I am willing to cut them a bit of slack on the implementation.0
