"The inside of the fridge is icing? When it was warm I have set it to the highest settings and it will ice and then defrost. The vegs get frozen. It’s only the fridge. Does not record a safe temperature, too warm sometimes 8 or 10. It is over 10 yrs old just wondering whether it will be better to buy a new one or is it worth repairing. It’s an hotpoint and I quite like it. Biko are very competing but not sure about the brand. Would like to stay with hotpoint. Thanks

Hi
How much to repair?
How much new, similar one inc collection of old?
Thanks1 -
Have you checked the simple things first? Switch it off, defrost it if there's any ice built up, clean and dry it thoroughly. Check the drainage hole is clear. Check that the seals are in good condition and scrupulously clean (it's surprising how the tiniest bit of muck can stop it sealing properly). If the seals are damaged, it's a cheap and easy DIY fix to buy some new ones online and fit them yourself. But start off with a thorough cleaning, see if that makes a difference. It may or may not work, but it'll cost you nothing to try.1

Can you clarify is it a fridge with a freezer box or a full sized fridge/freezer?Does it live inside the house or in an unheated room?0

Like I say, start out by defrosting, cleaning and drying everything thoroughly. Make sure drainage holes are clear, also check that water actually does flow through the drainage hole onto the evaporator at the back of the fridge. Whilst you're there, there's no harm in carefully removing all the dust from the back of the unit, the fins, pipework, whatever. If it works then great, if it doesn't, well then it's cost you nothing to try.ahfat41 said:
Full size fridge freezer, freezer working ok. Diagnostic test cost £40 to advise whether to repair or buy new one.alleycat` said:Can you clarify is it a fridge with a freezer box or a full sized fridge/freezer?Does it live inside the house or in an unheated room?

If you do replace it, Beko are a decent brand, arguably more reliable than Hotpoint who are now part of Whirlpool.0

If it's icing up and not keeping things cold, it sounds like something as cheap as a door seal. Still worth a "service" by vacuuming out all the debris and fluff in the the radiator at the back.Signature on holiday for two weeks2

model no?
Check the energy consumption against the specification(or use the spec if no meters)
Look at the spec of similar size with the features you want.
Pay back just changing may not be that long if you offset the repair costs, if it turns out to need money spending.
