TV claim

Hi all, I’m sure this has been asked before but haven’t managed to find an answer.
I have an oculus VR and managed to bowl my ball actually dead centre into my 2 year old 65 inch Samsung TV(Whoopsy:)
this cracked the tv and now a third of the screen isn’t showing a picture. It’s knackered!
is it worth claiming? I’ve had house insurance for over 20 years and never made a claim. I have accidental damage with Esure and not sure of the excess. The tv was about £700 new 2 years ago.

If it turns out not to be worth it due to excess and following years increase, is it ever worth getting accidental? I don’t have any items in the house worth over £2K that I can think of. Also, is it like car insurance where if I even call and discuss with Esure but decide not to claim, this could cause my quotes to increase in the future few years?

Firstly, have a look at the price of equivalent TVs... if it cost £700 2 years ago its likely to cost less now... especially right now as new models are announced in January at CES and so prices of current models are being discounted to tempt people to buy rather than wait to see what next year bings.
Secondly check what your excess is... traditionally Home excess were very low but since the aggregators rose in importance excesses on average have increased significantly to get prices down to get people higher on the list of low prices.
Finally... what is your current premiums? Loadings tend to be done as a percentage so if you are paying £100 for your contents the impact will be less in absolute terms than if you are already paying £500
If its worth claiming will be a guestimate based on the combination of the above. Home is the same as Car in that if you speak to them about the incident it will be recorded and need to be declared for the next 3-5 years.1
