I think some people's bodies attract static more than others. I often get shocks of things, my hair crackles when I brush it and sometimes I shock people when I touch them.

At school we used to have a Van De Graff(?) generator that generated static. I used to get seriously charged up when I went on that, with my hair flying and crackling all over the place. The teacher would put a bunsen burner on, and if I put my finger near the metal top, the spark from my finger would light the gas :rotfl:

The worst was using a Tens machine when I was in labour with my eldest son. That filled me full of static and nobody could touch me without getting a shock. Not good when you need to be touched in errr intimate places  :rotfl:
Here I go again on my own....

  • From this website
Does the weather affect static electricity?

Static charge build-up is enhanced when the air is dry. So, static problems and effects are often noticed in dry air conditions. The air outside can be very dry when the weather is cold and dry. Indoors, central heating or air conditioning can give very dry conditions which promote static electricity. Heating warms the air and reduces its humidity.
Static shocks are often noticed in cold dry weather, especially when in a centrally heated environment, and may disappear when the weather gets more humid. Static shocks may also be encouraged under air conditioning in hot weather.

  • A good 'experiment' to try is if you are wearing a shirt with man-made fibres (I find it works well with football shirts) is take it off in a pitch black room and as you remove it make sure it rubs on your hair. You will see (and hear) lots of little static sparks on the shirt.

  • I get shocks from almost everything & everyone, especially supermarket trollies, I don't even have to touch them to get a "nice" big spark out of them.

i often get a shock when i shut the car door. manmade soles on shoes and the nylon car carpets are to blame.
