Aviva Online Home Insurance

This insurance policy is managed totally online (can only call if making a claim). Has anyone used this policy? Any comments?
The Aviva Online came up on Confused and  Compare the Market and seems very reasonable. Is this policy only available through comparison sites?
I got a quote myself from Aviva for a standard policy and it was a lot more expensive. The Aviva Online appears to cover all my needs without all the bells and whistles some policies offer. Thanks.

  • I have a quote me happy policy which is essentially the same except the name! Been with them 2 years now. Never claimed except on home emergency which is homeserve. They came out the same day for a small drip on a water pipe.
You can go direct for a quote. May be worth looking at quote me happy too as despite being the same company they can vary in price.

My last policy with Hastings was totally online. Now I have a new AA one and that is also totally online.

I prefer it. I know where my documents are, I can refer to them whenever I want to and if I need to make a claim, as you say, I need to telephone. Hopefully I won't need to.

I would encourage/advise you to read through ALL the print, though, small print included. Just make sure that the policy covers everything you need. I've learned from expensive experience that it's not always best to accept the cheapest, no whistles or bells, policy. Just be careful, would be my advice and don't skimp.

Other than that, I'm really happy to have an online policy.

  • Re Home Emergency policy with A viva on line is it worth it . The policy is still reasonable. Does it effect NCD if you make a claim?

Home insurance rarely has a concept of NCD and the few that do have fairly inconsistent rules.  You'll need to read your policybook to see how your insurer deals with it.

For the majority that use continuous years of cover and claims history then a HE claim doesnt get declared on a Home policy even if they are bought attaching (same as a LE claim). However, some insurers ask about incidents and so depending on what the emergency was it may be declarable as an incident... obviously a broken tap wouldnt be but a burst pipe could.
