how will my universal credit be affected after parents help to buy my family a home?

    A property you own but do not live in can be disregarded for up to six months until you move on

    Your rent liability ends on 31st December so you will not get any help with rent for 11th December to 10th January (I assume you are paid UC on 17th of each month). However you should still get the housing element for November to December.

    So how should I word it when I report it to  UC? Obviously if they say why I didn't report that I was buying a house I will genuinely say I was waiting to make sure completion date went smoothly.

    You didn’t need to tell them because they aren’t interested until things happen.

    I’m not sure what the correct way of reporting these changes is.

    I would just report that from 31st Dec (if that's the correct dare) your tenancy ends and you no longer have any liability for rent payments. You therefore request that the housing element is no longer paid as at that date.
