Co-operative Switch Bonus

Does the switch need to be full or I can do it partially switch in order to get the £125 referral bonus?

I tried to read the terms and conditions but did not mention the need to be fully switched.

Excluding Smile accounts - you can benefit if the applicant holds Smile current accounts but not Co-op Bank ones.

Is that an issue though? You can easily open a new 'burner account' in 5 minutes. Then switch it to Co-op.

If I'm not mistaken, you are not new to this forum.
How come you don't have several current accounts ready for future switches? :)

  • The requirement for a switch using the Current Account Switch Service (CASS) effectively requires you to do a full switch. Partial switches don't use CASS, and therefore wouldn't be eligible for any incentive.

How long do you have to have a new burner before you can switch it?

All my accounts are currently 'tied up' with either linked savers or having recently switched (unless I can leave Lloyd's straight after getting the bonus??)

There's usually no reason you can't switch a donor account immediately after opening it, but it will negatively affect your average account lifetime and may also annoy the bank in question if you do it too often.

As for the Lloyds incentive, I'd check your terms but from past experience once the incentive has been paid there's usually no requirement to maintain the account. The only reason for keeping it would be to qualify yourself for additional rewards (eg. CL lifestyle benefits, etc).

I've never seen conclusive proof that average account lifetime is particularly relevant. Certainly has never stopped me getting the products I want.

have a read of the terms here:  https://www.co-operativebank.co.uk/products/bank-accounts/refer-a-friend/#T-and-Cs

The first para about the referrer says cashminder is ok.  But worth checking the terms out anyway.

As for the 'friend' being family, yes that's ok, they can't rule out family (they won't even know someone is family unless they have a list of all your relatives!)
  • @Zanderman thank you. I wonder why this is not on the main MSE page? This will make me feel a bit happier now I've missed the nationwide deadline!
