Returned item due to lack of collection?

Sold an item for £300
Buyer was very responsive at first, emailing about how happy he was with the item price etc.
Item sent via RM Special Delivery.
Arrived but no-one was in to accept, so it's been sitting at the delivery office for the past few days.
Have emailed the buyer twice to inform him - no response to any emails at all.
If the item is returned to me due to lack of collection, do I need to refund the entire cost including postage, and lose out as per the norm with eBay sellers!?
Or can I just refund the purchase price?
I assume its the former

You've done your part haven't you. Isn't it the buyer's job to initiate the refund process?

Im just assuming the buyer won't collect and the package will be returned to me...... early days yet, but was just wondering whether I refund just the item cost or whether eBay makes me refund the original postage too, even though the return wasn't my fault....0
