You can only claim on your credit card for a breach of contract... did you instruct them to cancel and they didnt or did you forget to tell them?
Whats wrong with providing the form? The bank will want much more than that for you to prove the breach.0 -
It was ongoing when i had the car insured which is ok I then sold the car some 2 years ago with a month left on the policy , It seems i should have cancelled the policy but i never knowingly signed up for automatic renewals
The form the insurers want is from the DVLA to obtain dated ownership details0 -
OP
why not give them the simple evidence you sold the car?0 -
I'm not sure anyone signs up for auto renewal it's more a case of ticking the box to sign out of them. Why do people not read the small print nowadays then complain as they didn't realise then expect a refund1

The insurers are required to add on auto-renewal to avoid people not being insured and getting in trouble, that's why it's opt out - you shop around, change insurance provider if you get a better deal but if you forget, you are still insured. Do you still have your bit of the form you give when you sell the car?beattie said:I Give them the simple evidence but no go They want the full V888 form

On my car insurance this year - I was automaticlly opted in to auto renewal - but was given the option to opt-out through the app as soon as it was set up (this is what I did). The difficulty you might have, is that although you did sell the car, and didn't need the insurance, and although you forgot to cancel it, in a sense they've still had costs to bear, and have provided cover (although you didn't need it or use it). I'm not sure you'll get a full refund - but there's no harm in trying by complying with their requests. I don't think there's any case for chargeback or anything similar here though if that's what you were hoping.0

Technically they were also potentially on risk as the RTA insurer of the vehicle had the new owner failed to insure the vehicle... there was a post on here not long ago about someone who sold their car and thought it cheaper to let the insurance run out than cancel it. As a breach of contract the insurer can recover their outlay from the policyholder, think the post here was about £30k, have seen more than double that.cymruchris said:On my car insurance this year - I was automaticlly opted in to auto renewal - but was given the option to opt-out through the app as soon as it was set up (this is what I did).
