Energy price cap - for caravans?

Hi,

I'm trying to find out whether the government's energy price cap applies to my parents' caravan. They have a static caravan on a caravan park in Wales, it's a site which is not open all year round if that makes a difference, only from 1st March to 31st October.

I can't see anything specified either way on the governments page for this: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/energy-bills-support/energy-bills-support-factsheet-8-september-2022

I'm asking because my parents' bill there has unsurprisingly more than doubled, and they mentioned the unit price has gone up to 48p, which is of course more than the cap. But I didn't know whether the caravan would qualify for the rate cap or not.

I'm hoping someone on here may have some clarity on this?

Many thanks.

  • Do they pay their electricity bill to an actual supplier, or do they pay it to the site?

If it's to the site, the domestic unit price cap does not apply (because they don't have a normal domestic account).

The site pays the bill directly, then recharges to each caravan owner. So from what you've said, that means they won't qualify then. Thank you.
  • Their supply will be covered by the electricity resale rules - which basically say that the site has to charge at exactly the rate that they pay (no profit on resale), and there is an equivalent, but much less generous, cap on business supply contracts which will apply to the site overall.  48p doesn't sound like an unusual business supply rate at the moment (and is cheaper than many).
