Open Therm

Hi.  Are there any experts out there who can advise on using my boiler on OPEN THERM. Currently using an external weather sensor so wondering if it's worth ditching that and converting to OT. Thanks.

First thing first, is your boiler OpenTherm compatible?

what make/model is your boiler? & what controls are you currently using?
But my first thought is if you are already using weather compensation probably not.

If you currently have an external temperature sensor hooked up to your boiler, it is probably already doing weather compensation. In which case, there is little advantage to connecting anything else to the boiler.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

Having had OT control in the past, I can see why the Dutch Government has made Opentherm boiler control mandatory. Some UK boiler manufacturers have manufactured Opentherm control cards for their boilers sold in The Netherlands, but fitting one of these cards to a boiler in the UK voids the UK warranty.

if it's using weather compensation the chances are that it is a modern modulating boiler (note that I did ask for details) & is communicating digitally between controls & boiler i.e. what OpenTherm does.
OpenTherm is just a communications protocol.
