Parking ticket in a Lay-by

Options
I drove to the Peak District and parked in a layby on Saturday morning.

It was in a remote area - near Mam Tor, out in the countryside and I arrived at 6.30am. I got a parking ticket around 7.15am as I had parked in a layby but with double yellow lines next to it.

Aren't the yellow lines to stop people parking on the other side of them - not the layby side ?

It was pre-sunrise and there was no lamp post lighting with it being in a remote location, also no parking signs or any kind of parking signs for that matter.

I can't understand how someone can do that for a job - driving around in a remote location in the countryside, on a Saturday morning, issuing parking tickets at 7.15am.

Just wondering if it is worth trying to get the parking ticket cancelled ?

And yes there is a lay-by with white dotted lines I could have parked in - didn't see that until I got back to my car in daylight though!

This location has cropped up on here before where a whole row of vehicles got ticketed.

Double Yellow Lines apply up to the to the boundary, in this case the wall, and across pavements to buildings in towns etcetera, not just to the edge of the road.

From your link you can see by comparison that there are several legitimate laybys where the DYLs end and are replaced by a single dotted white line.

Since we specialise in private parking charges here on MSE you would be better off taking this over to our friends on pepipoo.com as they are the council and police motoring experts.

You will need to register on pepipoo with a non-hotmail email address then read the FAQs before posting both sides of your redacted PCN with your query.

As above DYLs apply all the way to the end of the highway , that can be the hedge, wall, fence etc so even if  you are parked on a verge,  and there are DYLs by the road then you can face issues.as above Pepipoo would be the best place to take this, looking at the street view image there are older worn broken white lines that would indicate that at one time you could park there.
this former layby does appear to be a money spinner for the council
There are other parking spots available in the near area, including a large national trust car park at mam tor

No blame on the council here. The ticket was rightly issued and deserved
    Use a proper parking spot....
