British Gas behaviour

I was forced to British Gas when my supplier closed & have being confused by their behaviour and actions all along my time with them. They doubled my direct debit from £153 pm to £220 then latterly £320. We are low users of both electricity & gas and have built up a £1500 credit and now they want to increase the monthly debit by £10. With all that credit why are their calculations so wrong? Can I have money back and my monthly debit reduced?

we have always found it quite easy to set our dd to our usage but sometimes it does take actually showing some workings to prove the number we want. (tho we have never been with bg i dont think. the ones i can remember we had to 'negotiate' the dd with are npower/eon/sansburys (all one company but different bits) edf and now ovo.

i assume you are on the standard variable if you moved after your supplier failed.

do you take monthly meter readings? if you do can you give us a reading from about 12 months ago and a more recent one.

then we can work out your annual use and give an idea what your dd should be at current rates (the cap and the best estemate of the cap from april) including the credit and if you had the credit refunded.

you can then try taking those numbers to bg and seeing if they will set your dd to the point you think it should be at (or a little higher if you can agree to that). if not then we can maybe help with different payment methods or switching supplier.

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.

There isn't enough information to tell I'm afraid. If you can give us two meter readings, actual ones, not estimates, from 12 months apart, and the prices from your tariff, then we can see if you are paying enough, or too much.

Why not switch to Monthly Variable Direct Debit so that you pay for exactly what you've just used, not a penny more, not a penny less?
