"It came off in my hand"
snapped as forcing window shut (long boring story)
How easy/hard is it to replace a UPVC window handle? DIY job? Me and Bloke are both pretty handy but not done this before. Do I have to get a certain kind of handle?
TIA.

A couple of screws secures the handle to the window. Often hidden under a small plastic cap. Once the screws are out, the handle just pulls out. There is a square bar attached to the back which operates the locking mechanism, new handles usually come with the bar attached.Dead simple to swap. But... There are left hand & right hand handles, and the screw hole spacing is not the same for all makes/models.Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.1 -
Make sure you buy a replacement that has the correct spindle length. There are "universal" handles on-line that come with various spindle lenghts.
Kind Regards,

If the new handle isn't the same, but matches the lock, it can be easier to fix if the holes are positioned differently.
It's worth posting a photo.0 -

They can be cut to length if required..
I searched google when I replaced a handle in a place we rent out, this was years ago - link worth reading
Be sure you note how you take off, put on, it is simple but the spindle needs to be in the right position if not handle will be off-set but it takes a few mins to redo

Good luck1 -
You can generally reuse the old spindle, if not the universal length ones cut with a hacksaw. I had to replace one recently, I got it from Ebay for about £3 and it took 5 minutes to fit1

theyre called espagnolett handles . cannot tell if the one snapped off is dog legged if it is you need a right hand one . 5 minute job . spindles are often attached you can take that off and measure but your local eurocell or b n q sell them or a pvc shop or online . you may need to cut the spindle down with a hack saw or similar . If window is open fit it open . oil the mech or adjuset the keepers a bit . that's probably why it snapped . (or toe and heel the glass )
