Why do you need hot water at 2,30pm? In most houses, the peak demand is morning and evening. A properly insulated tank won't go cold between the two, unless you draw off all the hot water during the morning and afternoon.
The heat is either going to go to the tank, or the rads. Doing one after the other isn't really going to save any gas.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • I have my boiler heating the hot water for a couple of hours in the night when the central heating is not on. If I have them both on together the hot water takes priority over the rads and if it's cold the house cools or never reaches the set temperature. I've no idea about the gas consumption! The water stays hot all through the next day in the foam covered tank and we never run out.

Not sure if it's a Y or S plan or if the copper tank is pressurised sorry. The boiler is an valiant eco max pro the hot water tank came with a foam covering . The system was installed in 2006 so it's getting on a bit.
Look at the valve(s), Y Plan has one three port valve, S Plan has two two port (on/off). Should be reasonably easy to follow pipe or wires to see which.
Not sure if I'm looking at the right thing but it looks like a double pump  grundfos? There are 2 round red taps 1 out of each pump, I'm in work so will have to take a look tomorrow when I get in.
