I ordered a new sofa two weeks ago in M&S.  it won’t be ready until end January.  There is now a 15% off all furniture Sale.

Any point in asking them if they will give me the discount?  I used to do throw all the time with gap - and it always worked!  But this is hundreds of pounds!

You can ask. You probably have no chance of a refund to match the sale price otherwise everyone would do it - where would they stop. Black Friday sale was predictable would have made sense waiting to see what they offered.
  • Ha thanks for sticking the boot in!!! As if I wasn’t already kicking myself!

If they had increased it 15% would you be happy with them increasing the price of your order?

On a less flippant note, how/where did you order it? If you ordered it online you have a statutory right to cancel the order, you could then reorder it at the lower price but inevitably go further back in the queue. If you ordered it in store you have not statutory right of cancellation and it will come down to the company policy.

At the end of the day have a conversation, if you ordered online you can be a little more bullish.
  • Thanks!  I ordered online.

I assumed you wanted an honest answer to your question which I gave.

What have you got to lose by asking? If the answer is no, at least you will have the satisfaction of knowing.

  • Hi OP
I know how you feel we have been there.
We bought sofas, almost 4500 a 4 seater, we bought three.
It was a well know retailer but not one of those massive warehouse ones.
I then noted about a month later they have knocked 500 off each, it hurt.
I spoke with customer service to maon in a polite way hoping to get 50 odd quid back - lol, that is me, small time thinking.
to my vast surprise, they offered  900 back for all three as a "goodwill" - as we had bought from them before years ago and around that time one of our kids that lives on our road had bought two of them 9 months before. I was shocked and thought they  said 90 quid but it was 900. TBH, I thought it was too good to be true but guess what, got the money back on the cc a few days later

Then   3 years ago, bought a brand new car but did not take out a service plan - a few months later decided to go for athe maufatures 3 year service plan - I think it was just shy of 1600 quid.  Then about two weeks later they did a so-called "Black Friday" 10% off. I rang them to moan they would have been aware and  to my pleasant surprise  -  the young lady said, you've had cars with us for xx years as a "goodwill"  we will give you 10% off as the offer is still open. Thinking back I may have been withing the 14 days or so cooling off period so in theroy could cancel and do a new plan minus 10% as I'd not had the car serviced but either way, good news

So give them a call, sound dismayed, but be nice and polite - 100 quid is a 100 quid or 50 that matter. They can only say no

Good luck and let me know how you get on if you can, please

Is it a specially made sofa?

Because reading the terms and conditions regarding furniture on the m and s website you have 14 days from the date of delivery to change your mind.

Phone up and find a polite way of saying you may be changing your mind as the sofa is now 15% cheaper. They will probably at this point be happy to sort it for you. Its m and s, they do good customer service.
