Left a job after 1 day

My daughter who is a student went for a job in a restaurant that was advertised as up to £9.60.  The first day she went she was told she would only be getting minimum wage £6.83 per hour - this is less than she was earning is a cafe at 15.   After the shift she contacted me and told me that she didnt enjoy it so I told her to contact them and thank them for the opportunity but didnt feel the job was for her - which she did via the WhatsApp group the restaurant had.  The supervisor came back and said thanks for letting her know and said she would be paid for her shift at the end of the week as they paid weekly.  4 weeks later she has not been paid despite 3 messages they have not responded they have emailed her a wages slip and p45.   She is due £58.06.   I phoned the restaurant myself today and was told by the supervisor that the manager had messaged to say that nobody was getting paid as the payroll system was down and that they should be paid by close of business today - and that if they were not she would sure be expecting me to call tomorrow.  As of close of business she has not been paid - they use sage HR. No reported payroll issues on their website.  I guess what Im asking is what should we do now I am thinking she is entitled to be paid especially as they issued a wages slip - but I cant help but think she should of been paid a few weeks ago - surely the payroll cant of been down for 3 weeks (my boss said she should of been paid accrued holiday for the time she worked too?)  Any advice much appreciated.

Accrued holiday for working one day would be absolutely minimal and, to be honest, I would see it as taking the proverbial if I was the employer and somebody asked for holiday pay in that situation.  I appreciate the daughter is young, but the question about actual pay should have been asked at interview.  The up to £9.60 is approximately the minimum wage for a 23 year old, which I'm guessing she isn't.

Not sure what restaurant you would expect to announce payroll issues on their website.  I wouldn't imagine any would.

Might be on my own here but ages ago i worked for an agency (we're talking yonks ago one of my first jobs) and I only did 3 days for them, just really didn't suit me - I only got paid for 2 but as it was one day and just a few quid the aggro was beyond worth it given the benefits of moving on. If it'd been a few days it'd obviously be a bit different

Link above has good info by the looks if you do want to chase it.

I think the answer is keep phoning on a daily basis - although possibly encouraging your daughter to do so would be good experience for her. I appreciate that's a bit daunting if she's only a youngster, so quite understand your wish to protect her, but an early lesson in sorting out her own problems is no bad thing.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

If she's received the payslip and P45, that's the Sage/payroll part done - it is now a payment issue. Were they going to pay her into her bank account? Have they used the right details?

Young but an adult, the £6.83 rate is NMW for 18-20 year olds so it's likely that she's in that age range.

She is entitled to be paid for the hours actually worked. Assuming there was no contractual agreement to give notice then, with less than a month's employment, she was not obliged to give any notice to leave.

The holiday accrued would be less than an hour's pay, effectively impossible to enforce.

If they don't pay her wages she could launch a tribunal claim but must do so within 3 months of leaving. Alternatively she could use the small claims court / Moneyclaim online any time in the next six years!

Unless they go bust, if she follows it through she will eventually get the money. A good learning experience if nothing else.

As a payslip and P45 has been issued, I suspect it's an internal communication problem at the employer creating the holdup rather than any intent not to pay.  Just keep on to them.
