Sick pay for self-employed

    Just to be clear for OP so they can tell their friend, UC is calculated on actual received income not designated salary.  So if the husband is not bringing in any income whilst ill, it's very possible they may qualify unless they have savings over £16,000.
    But because they are self employed they are supposed to make provision for periods of illness and the Minimum Income Floor may apply.

    Whether an expected period of illness of six months would enable him to cease to be treated as gainfully self employed I don’t know.
    Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
