Hi I have just received 3 requests for money... 3x £600
Your PayPal account may have been illegally accessed. GBP 600. 00 has been deducted from your account to cover the cost of Waitrose & Partners Cards. If you think you did not make this transaction, call us right away at  xxx xxx xxx xxx

How do I deal with this safely please?

PS I have checked my linked accounts and no money is pending

Personally I ignore these now as there are dozens every week. I used to report them to paypal, but the scammers change the email addresses so quickly there is no real hope of anyone actually 'catching' them.

They will need to supply more efforts to keep changing their numbers, but blocking their number will only take you a few seconds. I have been blocking a few numbers like this in the past and it finally works finally after several blocking attempts. Since  a few months ago, I hardly ever receive a PP text like this any longer.
  • Sorry, I should have mentioned that these requests are actually showing in my paypal account as a request for money with an attached message.
There is also an email sent to my email account

Is it safe just to reject the request and delete the emails?

    Thank you.
I'm worried about pressing the 'cancel' button in case they have cleverly transposed the cancel with the send payment buttons.
I have never had a request to send money before so I have no idea what it looks like.

  • If you're worried, contact PayPal through their service centre. Otherwise ignore them.

I also received this email today and as sparkie says it appears as a money request when I log in to Paypal.
    I've reported it to
    phishing@paypal.com
which was the only email I could find that seemed relevant.
I assume that someone has taken over the account requesting the money, so Paypal needs to know about it.
