Claiming back from RM Tracked 48

Options
So I sent a fragile parcel well wrapped and secure with Fragile written on the parcel.   It was sent tracked 48 and because of its size I took it to my local DO.  I purchased the label through EBay not the RM website.  Upon delivery the recipient has sent me photos and the majority of the items were damaged.  So I’ve refunded my buyer and now want to claim from RM.  When I try to do this it asks for proof of posting which I’m unable to provide they didn’t give me one at the DO just took the parcel and scanned it.  It was due to be collected by my postman but I thought I’d take it to the DO because of its content and size.  Is there something I should have done at DO to get proof of posting.  Do you think RM will compensate without this even though they can see the tracking and delivery.  Thankyou

Sticking fragile on it probably does very little.  It needed to be packed with enough protection to put heavier boxes on it and dropped from a decent
height. If it cannot survive that then it needed better packaging.

When filling a van up for delivery often there is not much you can do about heavier items on top of smaller/lighter ones.

Presumably the tracking shows the parcel has been scanned throughout the network and then delivered which is sufficient to show you posted the item of mail.

It won't cost anything to file the claim so you might as well but it's worth reading through the Royal Mail packing guidelines, if you met these then they should compensate for the damage but generally if a parcel is packed well it's contents shouldn't get damaged (unless it arrives with tyre marks on the box) and may be best to prepare for them to say the packing guidelines were not met :(

  • I have successfully claimed for a damaged parcel in the past and I can't say I paid all that much attention to the packing guidelines.
I also purchased postage through ebay, what I did for proof of postage was to save the email as a PDF and upload that. If you have a laptop/desktop, normally one of the options when you print an email is to create a PDF.
