Exporting solar energy to the grid

  • For a space of 6 months, my solar panels were exporting excess power to the grid. Octopus had not yet accepted my exports. This was due to the incompetence of my fitting company and the National Grid. So I have 6 months of exported energy that no-one has paid me for. I’m trying to correct this.
It’s not my energy companies fault as they didn’t come on line until the 26th October l. All my excess energy was going to the National Grid, who also dragged their feet in making me live. Is it them who owe me for the energy, or my fitting company as compensation for their incompetence. Any advice would be gratefully received.
    Thank you
Back on topic...assuming it was a straightforward G98 application (which should have been done by your installers as soon as they'd installed) it's the installers you have a case against as most of the delay will have been down to them. You could try a Section 75 claim if you paid by credit card, or the online "small claims court".

The sum's only likely to have been around £100 though. You could instead do what I've done after similar delays now it's all sorted and forget all about it. Life's too short. Be grateful you found someone who could install in April when your system will probably have been much cheaper than it is now. My installers did it for an excellent price. You'd only have been getting 7.5p/kWh tops, whereas now you can sign up for15p/kwH fixed for a year from Octopus.
    4.7kWp (12 * Hyundai S395VG) facing more or less S + 3.6kW Growatt inverter + 6.5kWh Growatt battery. SE London/Kent. Fitted 03/22 £1,025/kW + battery £2495

  •  wonder what would could as a new solar system? could you replace one panel or add a panel and register it as a 'new' system maybe.

Under FIT rules, the installation has to remain the same so adding a panel isn’t an option. No installer is going to issue a MCS Certificate for an installation that is 16 years old.

As I said before, this is an unusual situation which the rules do not cover. If Octopus is prepared to become the FIT payer then I cannot see how they can reasonably refuse to pay SEG in lieu of export payments. As usual, it is finding the right person to speak to within the massive Octopus organisation.

Thanks. I feel a tweet or email to Greg Jackson coming on...
