  • That ones an ES (screw type)  also available with older bayonet type

    I was going to say the bayonet type wasn't older just has begun taking over somewhat in the UK market in recent years. 

    The  I went and checked. Edison patented his screw fitting until 1881, so it's a pretty old design. But you were right and I was wrong: the bayonet cap was developed by St George William Lane Fox-Pitt and his Brush Electric Co in the 1870s, so beat the Edison Screw to it.

    I've messed up my cooker hood lights by trying LED's, I think I've messed up the transformers.  I bought halogen again on line and they work, but erratically.  Time to phone my friendly local electrician I think!
