Good Morning chums, now my Kenwood foodmixer/blender died on my last night after 12 years of trusty service and I can'r decide whether to buy a new one, or just a blender. I realised that I hadn't used the base part (food mixer ) for about two years.
I tended only to use the blender for soups ,milkshakes etc.
My previous one was a Kenwood with the attachments ,one of which was the super blender that sat on the base of the food mixer and the motor from the food mixer worked the blender IYSWIM.
Now thinking about it I shall be moving hopefully within the next 18 months or so to live on the IoW with my DD and son-in-law and was thinking is it really worth buying a new one, and perhaps just a blender would do
Anyone got any recommendations for a decent blender just by itself. As long as its got a good jug size and a strong enough motor. because of the faff of getting the food mixer and all the bits out when I am baking for the past couple of years I've gone back to baking the 'old fashioned way' of wooden spoon and large fork so I'm seriously thinking just a blender would do and it will take up less room in the cupboards as well.Would do you all think ?

I bought a cheap stick blender a few years ago for soup and hummus. It struggled and very quickly gave up the ghost. What I have now is a soup maker, which makes soup in 21 minutes and doubles as a blender, though for hummus I actually use my mini food processor.3

I found that it didn't give enough flavour without frying off onions etc first. Cleaning it out was more of a faff than I wanted as it couldn't be immersed in water, and finally the lid part which contains the motor and chopping mechanism was both heavy and another faff to clean. Great idea, however it was just as easy and quick to make a pot of soup on the hob and much easier to deal with afterwards.I know that others swear by it, not for me.5

@London_1 I have a Morphy Richards sauté and soup maker, so I can fry onions etc in it rather than in a separate pan, before adding stock and telling it to make soup. Unlike Gers I don’t find it difficult to clean, and I don’t have to push the soup through a sieve, which I've always found messy and hate doing.I bought mine after seeing a friend use one. DD1 laughed at it but nevertheless bought one herself. All three of us love it.3

Researched the internet and spotted on the Asda's website a jug blender for £12.00 so DD has nipped across from where she works and picked it up for me. So I will now have a jug blender plus a food processor for under £50.00 thats my xmas present from myself to myself . I'm a happy old dear this afternoon, as my previous Kenwood food mixer cost me around £70 odd quid 12 years ago win-win today
