December train strikes or not?

Options
So I see on the news this morning they're striking on Tues 13th & Weds 14th December. There's other days but these are the two that impact me. I thought no problem, we're booked to leave on Monday 12th so we'll just see if we can extend our stay a day and come back on Thurs 15th, problem solved, hopefully.

My wife insists there's rail strikes on Monday 12th also but every time I search I can't find them. She's at work so I'd need to wait until she gets home.

Cancelling the holiday is last resort but anyone here have info on that (Monday 12th)?

Once the strikes are in place I highly doubt they'll be changed but if they were, how late do they usually leave these things to overturn them IF they're going to?

  • There is more than one industrial dispute on the railways at the moment.

The strike on Monday 12 December is by staff working for Avanti West Coast, so depending on where you're travelling, it may or may not affect you.

Just had a look. Looks like they're not functioning that entire week.

Is looking like a long drive or holiday cancellation.

    Thanks for the reply.

You should be ok for the 15th December whether you are travelling with Avanti West Coast or anyone else.

Some services may not run to schedule given that rolling stock may initially be in the wrong location.

It would help if you said exactly where you are travelling to and from?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Yeah but the hotel is booked for the 12th. I need to be there for then. The latter part was only for a return.

Genuine question - why (when it already said there's no trains running out of here on 12th December). Does that not make it a little irrelevant where from/to if there's nothing running?

On a side note I've looked out car parking near the hotel. £22 for 24hrs. I need 48hrs minimum.
I hate driving in places I don't know and I hate driving in busy places but it's either this or cancel the break.

Looks like a 4am set off for me then. Early to bed it is.

£22 for 24 hours parking, sounds like central London rates. Tried the Your Parking Space site?

    Central Edinburgh.

I'd never heard of that site so no I haven't.

So long as I don't have to park too far away from the hotel then I'm happy.

I'd be even happier if they knocked off this strike but I can't see that happening.

Because we might save been able to suggest another route without driving all the way?

Not trying to be clever but I don't see how when there's no trains coming out of the station on the 12th.

There may well be trains running on that day. A lot of the rail companies are not confirming timetables until a few days beforehand. If they don't confirm the timetable then no trains will show up in the Nat Rail database.
