If Housing should provide you with a reference number and haven't then your best course of action is to contact your local councillor (if you don't know who it is your council's website should be able to tell you), this is the sort of thing that they deal with all the time. Many councillors run surgeries where you can go to discuss the issue face to face, although you may need to make an appointment to see them.
  • Contact local Housing Associations to see where they advertise their properties and how you can apply for one. As advised above, contact your local Councillors to see if they can assist and write to the Council and Housing Association on your behalf, supporting your need for suitable accommodation, whilst you search for a job and get back on your feet.

    All the best.

Is there a common theme with regards to jobs as to why after five or six months your services are no longer required?
Because it seems unlikely that every employer over 10 years has been unfair or got rid of you with no good reason.
is this something you can work on to change, to give you more stability?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • Follow, calmly and politely, the council complaints procedure.
