How long is a reasonable amount of time for a Vet to submit insurance claim form?

Hello,

My cat had some X-rays and other bits done a few weeks ago at Vets4Pets in a Pets at Home. It all came to around £1,000 which I had to pay upfront. 6 weeks after I've made the insurance claim I'm still chasing the practice to submit the electronic claim form. I must have made over 10 phone calls, all of which the receptionist has said they'd chase up with the vet that needs to submit the form.

It's a good amount of money, which I need back as soon as possible. How much longer is a reasonable amount of time to wait before making an official complaint and taking it further? I'm asking this question in case I'm unknowingly being impatient!

Thanks

  • I used to work for an equine practice and claim forms were dealt with pretty well as soon as they came in then sent straight back to insurers... but then the vets were paid from the insurer direct rather than the customer.
If it was me I'd try to find the name of the person who is dealing with the claim and ring them every few days until you know they have submitted your claim. Its not good enough you have had to wait getting on 2 months for your money.

Call at the surgery and ask  about it.

it is easier to fob you off on a phone call than to do so face to face.

In our experience claim forms are submitted within 1 or 2 days,  so you've already been more than patient.

However,  as they've dragged their feet, why not complete and submit the form yourself? You should just need to ask the vet receptionist to put their official stamp on the form for you.
