I didn't jump down your throat. On my TV, ITV X (replacement for the rubbish hub) doesn't show ads during the programme. Neither does channel 5, channel 4 does and you can't FF them. So, you said a couple....What was the other one?Eldi_Dos said:
If you are going to jump down people's throats it is better to have your facts right, the couple of catch up channels I have watched do not allow you to fast forward through the adverts. It is a curious concept that watching television is free.RumRat said:
And you can't fast forward your SCD because????? Is your iPlayer broken? The others show ads at the beginning and end and skip them in the middle and fast forwarding is always present.....Of course, because you are getting it free you are going to need to pay somehow....Watching an ad beginning and end is small potatoes in the scheme of things.Eldi_Dos said:One big benefit of a recording over catchup is you can fast forward when adverts come on or annoying bits of programmes.SCD is so much more enjoyable when you can fast forward and skip the judges comments.
OP ,check that the light in room is suitable for your Dad,to see control and not cause reflections on bezel or screen, these can make a difference which might not be obvious to other people.
Sorry to hear about your potatoes mine where quite good size this year, I find the secret is making sure the ground is well prepared and fed at the beginning of the season.
As for iPlayer, yes you can definitely fast forward through the judges comments if that's what you want. You didn't acknowledge that mistake.
I agree that a PVR is much more convenient, but not necessary to achieve what the OP wanted.
Your attempt at humour also failed....sorry.

Sorry to muscle in on your thread @cranleyleaf. I have a Virgin tivo box and the iplayer is really annoying in fast forward. You can't see the pictures on the screen move IYSWIM just the time underneath which jumps forward in fits and starts. So it's really difficult to choose when to stop. ☹️ Totally different from watching iplayer on desktop which is 'normal' in FF.
Is this just my experience? 🤔0 -
Yes and No...When I FF iPlayer on the TV there are a series of scenes at the top the time line so you know where you are. I think they are 10 second jumps so not hard to get to where you want.. Much better on the PC as you say.maman said:Sorry to muscle in on your thread @cranleyleaf. I have a Virgin tivo box and the iplayer is really annoying in fast forward. One of the reasons I record is to fast forward the adverts. There's no choice but to watch them on STV player, all 4 and channel 5. Also can watch programme after no longer available on catch up.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

As usual, it all depends on the platform being used. the worse implementations of the catchup services seems to be via external boxes. Well that's the case here....Terrible on Humax PVR, better on Samsung TV's, best on PC.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Hi cranleyleaf, in case you are considering the Manhattan T3-R mentioned earlier in the thread, I see it has been reduced in price today at Argos. The 500gb is now £159, and the 1TB is now £179.

legend thanks so much - ordereddc_scotland said:0 -
I can recommend the Manhatten T2R. It is simple and straightforward. The remote control is the best I have used on a PVR. If you simply want to watch/record Freeview channels check it out.0
