Paper driving licence?

I passed my test so long ago that I have never had a photo driving licence. I've always had a paper one. Until now.

I have just applied for, and received, a little plastic photo driving licence in the post. I had a feeling that there's supposed to be a paper version as well?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Same with me. A plastic card. I was told to send back my old paper one .

Same here. I was also told to send the paper one back and now only have a plastic photo licence.

No, there used to be a paper counterpart, but it's just the plastic card now. The stuff that used to be on the counterpart is now online.

I have just sent mine back as the paper was in a 100 pieces after being folded up in my wallet for 30 years.

Thanks. That sets my mind at rest.

The paper one becomes invalid when replaced by a photo license and as above, the new paper counterpart and was replaced by online solutions such as the one to inform car rental places of your history.

My licence was changed many years ago due to updating address.

had both and when giving a witness statement the police asked for both.

Paper one was abolished in 2015

There's obviously more to that story.

Think you beat me, mine was only 37 pieces.  Well its now mostly sellotape after the new lad in the transport
office thought it too delicate to photocopy without some added protection.

I should probably carry some of those gloves they use in museums just in case i need to provide it anywhere. Yes I have
my licence but you need to wear these before you can touch it.
