Sorry for any inconvenience:  This is my edited post:  I posted this because I had a recurring problem sending emails in Thunderbird using my PlusNet email address.  Incoming emails to this address arrived but I could not send emails.  After posting this today, somehow, the recurring problem seems to have been resolved and I managed to send an email from my PlusNet email address in Thunderbird.

The PlusNet email credentials were correct and I'm not sure what the problem has been.  So far today, thankfully,  it seems to have been resolved.

Wouldn't it be easier to use your gmail address on your laptop then ?

    Probably related to this:-
    smtp.plus.net.        20528    IN    CNAME    relay.plus.net
try using relay.plus.net and see if that resolves the issue?

Thank you very much for replying.  Before I noticed your replies, inexplicably, I was able to successfully send an email in Thunderbird, using my PlusNet email address.  I had edited my post before seeing your replies.

I find Thunderbird better for me on my laptop because I receive notification when a new email arrives and I am familiar with the system in Thunderbird.  Although I have a much less used gmail address, most of the time I prefer to use my PlusNet email address.

Hopefully the problem has sorted itself and, once more.  Thank you again and I apologize for any inconvenience.
  • I'd suggest you move away from using an ISP email account, or you'll find yourselves locked into them and unable to change.
You can use Thunderbird for gmail. I do.

Thanks very much outtaatune.  I did try to download gmail  app on my laptop but I didn't manage.  Although I have had help on this forum many times, much appreciated, and I am a lot better than I used to be, I'm afraid I'm not good with technology.  I know what you mean about being tied to my ISP email address, thanks.

I really don't manage well with technology.
  • hi Crimson have you got an android phone? It will have a gmail username and password you don't need an app on your PC, you just need to set up a new account in thunderbird using your existing gmail account for the phone, here is an example

Thanks very much debitcardmayhem. (My Gmail username and Password are the same as my 'Google' one.)  What I was hoping to do, before the problem seemed to sort itself  'spontaneously' today, was to have Gmail app on my laptop and use it for my Plusnet emails instead of Thunderbird. It was in Thunderbird that I could not send Plusnet emails in, but could, strangely enough, receive Plusnet emails:  Hoped to set up Gmail on my laptop and use it like Thunderbird:

Receive my (few) Gmail emails there as well as my Plusnet emails.  I hope I have explained this O.K.  Now that the problem seems to have resolved in Thunderbird (I can now both receive and send Plusnet emails there as before) it is back to normal now.

As before on my mobile phone, gmail app, I receive Gmail emails and Plusnet emails normally as previously.  On Thunderbird (laptop) and Gmail app (mobile phone) I receive 'sound' notification when a new email arrives.

Thank you very much for replying and for the helpful link.
