Barclaycard application lack of communication - any advice please ?

Hi there having previously been given a Barclaycard some years back with a 0% interest on purchases I thought I would apply again for one to make the most of my savings. I applied on 13th October and got the "we need some more information" message and they said they would be in touch within 5 working days.

Nearly a month went by, heard absolutely nothing so tried to call them - what an absolute nightmare ! I don't have a card number obviously so getting through to a person was a mission, then she said we have no record of an application you need the number for new applications.

Put me on hold to go and get the number and after an hour I had to give up.

I (stupidly) applied again and got a similar message, but this time it said it had been referred as I had made a previous application at this address.

It has now been 6 working days and again nothing - no letter, email, call or anything.

Does anyone know of a number I can call, or any way I can get this resolved ?

I have also tried chat and that is no help either.

If anything I just want to either have my application approved or deleted but don't know how to go about it.

Thanks if you got to the end.

  • might be worth a walk into your local barclays branch, possible may have an internal phone line.

worked for me when I had an issue previously
  • Perhaps see if they have a complaints hotline. Had massive problems with Santander recently and on normal line it was between 30min and 1h waiting time. Complaints hotline was usually picked up immediatly or at max 5 min waiting time. Not sure if Barclays has a similar policy, hotline but worth a check.
  • We are with Barclays premier they are ok and been with Barclays around 40 years. However, we did away with their cc cad a long while back and joined. It was confusing and eventually managed as we like to keep stuff in a few places as possible, but gettingthrough via phone and their .... automated sytem for Barclay card is a nightmare. Having said that a few other places are the same you ring, robot answers you press the numbers and tells you to go online and cuts you off.

We applied to have the cc limit upped but like you have naff all back and tried 4 times and naff all and rang via our premier account and was advised they dont update online applications, lol, not!

Thankfully we still  have our AE card

Message them on Twitter to ask how you can contact them without an active account. They are quick to respond there, but obviously won't discuss intricate account details.
  • They have been swamped with the recent 100,000 Avios deal for holding a Barclays Premier Account and Barclaycard Avios Plus so maybe a bit of understanding about the slow response.

I have two Barclaycard, the first one for over 23 years, and I have to say that recently their operations seems to have worsened (takes ages to get a replacement card, reports of new accounts having issues and online purchases not working -thankfully not experienced by me but looks to be for new customers.

@diystarer7 , I find strange the comment about the  automatic machine being a Premier customer: I normally use the app to call (so to easily pass security) and I get hold of someone pretty quickly for both Barclays and Barclaycard query. I have also been called back by Barclaycard second line support as a follow up quickly when the first CS agent could not fulfil my request.
  • Thanks all for your responses - I have been working solidly since I posted this but will probably try twitter first off.
I didn't know about the avios thing but surely over a month is still stretching it ?
