This is soooo fustrating...
Last night my pc was working perfectly well, woke up this morning, turned on pc and my monitor decided to go 'funky' on me lol By that I mean it was scrolling frantically (vertically) So I switched it off.
Turned it back on and monitor just said 'no signal'
Thinking it may be the monitor I decided to test out the other 2 monitors (that I know work) and again 'no signal'
Figured it must be the graphics card,(just a geforce mx440se) so took this out cleaned the dust of it and put it back in and monitor seemed to work ok, for about 10 seconds then went to no signal again.
took the graphics card out of my sons pc as I know this works, and my pc booted up to the main windows screen, told me my screen res was wrong etc and found the new vga controller, but then monitor shut down again whilst it was installing it
Is it guaranteed by this that it is defo the graphics card that is faulty? The fan on it goes round and no dust etc clogging it up...
I cant afford to buy a new graphics card if that isnt the problem but I am totally stumped as to what else it can be Cant seem to figure out why my sons graphics card wont work in my pc also My mobo must be ok as it all boots up etc fine and I am able to get online using sons pc, which is networked through mine, so my pc is working, just cant seem to get a monitor to work on it properly and therefor cant use it???
Any ideas???
Am left using my sons pc at the moment, and am totally baffled.

does safe mode work, f8 at bootEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

does the mobo have on board graphics too?
you can try that first. also try another cable?
psu poss?
if another monitor and another video card still does not work, then the mobo itself is looking a bit suspect.Get some gorm.0 -
TBH didnt try Safe mode, will take out card and put it back in and try this
(Thats the only way I can get like 5 secs of monitor showing something)
Will report back in a few mins on how this went
@ormus, I 'think' mobo has onboard graphics, although its been years since I've delved into the workings of a mobo, and of hand cant remember how to even get the onboard graphics side of it working without using the ge-force?? I did take the ge-force out & it didnt revert to on board but I think this may be disabled in the bios (maybe) that sounds so sad and I used to work in a pc shop ! lol
The cables are fine, I used both my sons leads and still same problem.
The weird thing with the gfx card of my sons I used, is it seemed to get real warm real quick, it doesnt have a fan on his like mine does & is a lesser spec pc than mine, so I assumed this was the reason it wouldnt work properly in mine, and I didnt want to fry his gfx card so I took it out straight away.
K will try in safe mode and check out the bios .. will update you
Thak you so muchBest wins

k here goes..that was fun ! lol
Finally got it to go into Safe Mode, which booted up windows with no probs, and apart from the obvious graphics colours it was all ok, monitor stayed on and it bought up my screen etc.
I re-booted and monitor switched off again, it tends to only get up to the part before it loads the splash screen then switches off.
I checked the bios and couldnt find anything to do with on-board graphics, although I am sure it has got it, my mobo is a K7S41GX if that helps.
I checked the temp of my pc and it seems ok, so not overheating..cpu is 38/100 & Mobo is 25/77.
I am puzzled :mad:Best wins

Yay, all sorted Well kind of.
Took out graphics card & managed to find the slot in back of pc for my monitor that led to onboard graphics, rebooted and hey presto I have my pc back with proper graphics & monitor is working
Only thing is for some reason it totally messed up my internet settings so I had to re-configure the internet in order to get online.
So I guess it was the graphics card after all...so of into town Thursday to go into Dixons and try to buy another card (that should be fun!!)
Arghh I hate computers lol
Thank you all so much & fixed in time for my kids to come home and not moan
Cheers peepsBest wins

if it works in safe mode, try a system restore, it is more likely to be a software issue than graphics card.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

I've seen similar symptoms where a graphics card is using a refresh rate that is ~just~ too high for the monitor to handle.
Before spending cash, might be worth trying the following: Right-click your desktop and choose Properties, Settings, Advanced, Monitor and then (if you have the option) reduce the Screen Refresh Rate.0
