Scottish Power - new customer?

Good morning

Can anyone confirm whether Scottish Power are currently taking on new customers?

Currently on a two year fix with Ovo which ends 16/01/23. I’m all electric, economy 7, with 80% of my annual usage on the night rate.

I recently discovered that Economy 7 rates under the ‘price guarantee’ vary between suppliers, and Scottish Power have the lowest Economy 7 night rate in the West Mids.

Based on exact usage between 16/01/22 and 31/03/22, the tariff I’ll be moved onto with Ovo would cost £528.61 for the 75 days, compared to Scottish Power’s Standard Online costing £396.10. Obviously I won’t be looking to switch before my fix ends, but as Scottish Power will work out cheaper over those 75 days (until the April ‘23 price increase kicks in at least), I thought it wise to plan ahead.

I am aware, and make use of Ovo’s interest reward scheme; but I’d have to build a pretty high level of credit in order to make £132 over 75 days.

As Scottish Power’s Economy 7 day rate is painfully high, I would be looking to switch away from them once the storage heaters are switched off.

Someone recently reported that they did persuade SP to take them on as a new customer, but they needed to phone them and be persistent.

You cannot switch online, so only a phone call will tell you. Reports on here recently say that only EDF and Octopus are taking on new customers.

Allowing you to get a quote online and then allowing you to switch are two different things...

interesting. i didn't know you could use the moving home services for a supplier switch but logically i guess its the same thing as you have at least a deemed tarrif when yo move in somewhere.
