8mm plasterboard?

We had a leak, and I need to repair a hole in the ceiling. It’s double boarded, and it looks like the lower board measures 8mm thick. The only problem is that I can’t find 8mm plasterboard.
There’s 6mm, and I guess that the extra 2mm is the skim coat?
As my plastering is poor, should I get someone in, or is there some way to make up the difference? It seems crazy to get a plasterer in to deal with a hole that’s only 30cm across.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

For a hole that small, I'd fill with a patch of plasterboard best I can. Then either skim with multiple coats of Easi-fill and sand back once dry (dusty work though). Alternatively, use Knauf Fill & Finish. When dry, use a wet sponge float to knock back the humps and fill the hollows (do a search for "wet sponge sanding").

There's no such thing as 8mm p'board, and there's def no such thing as 6mm. AFAIK.
But, as long as you fill that hole with summat, then even you can skim and sand and skim and sand and ski...yougettheidea until it's all smooth and level
A photo would be a good start

6mm is normally used on curved work, as it's more bendy Bendy.2

Ya 6mm used on curved stud walls, usually double boarded to give it strength. Plus very few stockiest.
