Be aware of pre-heat boilers

Hi, I live alone in a 2 bed flat EPC B. I don't use hot water everyday. My boiler preheats the hot water so it's always at hand,  (it can't be switched off) this has never bothered me before. Yesterday I did a test although I sat in the cold, I switched the boiler OFF for 24 hours, 2am to 2am . After checking my usage with OVO I see preheat comes on every 90 minutes, also I find that period the boiler was switched OFF  cost 1 penny, (probably 12-2am) checking my least usage over the previous 3 months the lowest I could find was 81 pennies. I was amazed that adding that up comes to £24 a month. I can switch the boiler off in summer so can make a saving but, in winter thats not possible as the heating needs to be on. I'm hoping this research can help someone to save a few pounds with some effort. Has anyone else any smart money saving ideas ?

How sure are you the preheat can't be switched off? If you post the boiler model here, somebody might know a way to turn it off.

I have searched everything online including the manufacturer. It's IDEAL ISAR HE35

It's a recurring theme with the ISAR range - preheat can't be switched off without turning the whole boiler off.

Would have thought some smart gas safe plumber or electrician might have found a work around. Talk about wasting energy a net zero. Thanks for for that

Well, there are people who will sell you a “pre-heat disabling kit” but I’m not qualified to give any sort of advice about that.
