Cheaper to boil kettle or waste water to wash up?

The vast majority of households are better off with metering. Without knowing the size of the property (no. of bedrooms) or the no. in your household, no-one can say, but I certainly wouldn't rely on a first-tier call centre operative to make that decision for you.BooJewels said:I'm not sure what you mean @macman ? I'm not metered and don't want to be. When I had reason to ring the water company to make a change to the bill, I asked if I was on the best arrangement and she did some working out for me and we decided that my current arrangement is by far the cheapest for me.
The general MSE advice is that if you have more bedrooms than residents, then metered billing is cheaper. And, since you can always revert to RV billing in the first 12 months if it isn't, it's really a no-brainer.No free lunch, and no free laptop

My mum had a water meter fitted not long ago. She lives on her own in a large house and it's saving her a fortune. It'll save even more next summer as I've fitted her a couple of rainwater butts so she doesn't have to use tap water on the garden.
She'd always rejected the idea for some reason. I think when my dad was alive he had some kind of ideological objection to water meters, like some people do to smart meters. Now she wishes she had done it years ago - she's literally washed hundreds if not thousands of pounds down the drain!0
