Summarise the problem with the dates on which they occured in a short, typed letter and get yourself down to the Post Office to send it by REGISTERED delivery. Let them know you mean business. I've always found that registered delivery letters carry more weight than e-mails. They can proved more easily in a legal case.

It must be by registered delivery though so that you can get proof of who has signed for the letter (you can see this online on the Royal Mail website) It's worth the cost to get the company moving fast and you can mention that you'd also like your postage costs to be refunded as a gesture of goodwill. Remember to mark it as 'URGENT' and try to address it to a director in the company, then the problem will be their responsibility ;)

Best of luck with it, hope you get it sorted out before Christmas

The last registered post I sent through Royal Mail disappeared. I'm still waiting for my compensation. (must be nearly two months since I sent it now)

In my case I was returning a broken item I'd got through ebay so of course seller won't refund me until he receives it but that won't happen now. I sent it first class recorded. The fact they have specific loss claim forms makes me wonder how often it happens. Ironically you have to fill in the form and then post it to them!

Just phoned them now since I was reminded of it and it's still not on their system (I sent the form a month ago). Apparently they're getting more and more backlogged because of the strike action and people putting in claims because their post was delayed because of that and now because of the Xmas period as well is adding to things really slowing down. I should "expect an acknowledgement in the next couple of weeks". But after that it still requires the seller I was sending it to to fill in a form he recieves and posting it back to the RM for my claim to get processed. The flaw in that system? The ebay seller wasn't exactly amicable to me in the first place and was very evasive when I wanted a refund and he probably thinks I was trying to scam him, so the chances he's going to bother filling in a form on my behalf? Apparently the fact it wasn't signed for (which is what I paid for) isn't enough proof it wasn't delivered.

Think I may as well say goodbye to that money now, it's going to end up costing me a lot more in my time to sort it out trying to claim it back. I'm not a big fan of ebay/paypal/RM at the moment.

  • Been waiting for a delivery via Home Delivery network for a week now. The delivery was to be to my work (next door to my house) as I am there all day. They say they have tried to deliver 4 times and have carded me which is a blatent error. There's someone either at my hose or work all day without a break, I even phoned them to ensure delivery but it still didn't come. Have complained to Virgin wines so they cam give them a rocket. They do have 2 tel numbers to ring if any probs but no calls either. Just had an e-mail from Virgin saying order now and we guarantee delivery before xmas, fat chance on this history. mind you they don't say which christmas, this years or next.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

I don't think I've had any problems with the Home Delivery Network myself. But the major problem I can see is that there's no consistency in the service of these courier companies (and RM/Parcel Force) nationally. I've read awful things about all the courier companies. It varies so much from area to area and employee to employee. And as far as management goes they ALWAYS side against the customer by default even with precedent of things being their fault. Apologies to OP for taking this OT a bit. I guess you've got everyone including me venting now. :D

At the end of November I ordered something from a company, who received my order, dispatched it with TNT on 28th Nov, and TNT delivered it to my local RoyalMail depot on 1st December (according to the tracking number).

Strangely enough, it didn't arrive at my house, and the local RM depot deny all knowledge and say they don't accept parcels from courriers.

I'm reluctant to believe RM, as they do lose an awful lot of my post (particularly things of value and parcels...), but I wasn't aware that courrier companies sometimes deliver to the nearest RM depot, and does anyone know if this is normal??

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Not heard of that before. But in your case it's the same as the OP, if it seems to have gone "missing" it's down to the company you ordered it off to sort it. It's not down to you to chase up the delivery system they use. I've found our local depot to be quite helpful and not really noticed any problems with them. If it seems to be a bit of a pattern in your case it's definitely worth you putting in an official complaint.

But it does seem a peculiar arrangement, I wonder if that's a particular contract TNT have with RM or something.

I remember reading a bit ago on this forum one member (can't remember who) also had security footage of their driveway and when a courier said they'd tried at a certain date and time, he responded to the courier company with "well I've got video footage for that entire day of NOBODY coming up the drive". The courier company then decided maybe they'd investigate and they suspended the courier in question. But just shows that you do really have to protect yourself with cast iron proof just to get anywhere before they take notice.

A while back I was waiting for a delivery from City Link - no-one rang the bell, and I didn't hear anyone knock, but I did hear the card come though the letterbox. Went running outside and the guy had already got back in his van and was reversing up the drive. He saw me but didn't even stop!!

Rearranged delivery and virtually the same thing happened except to my wife this time. I immediately phoned them to complain and eventually they got the guy to ring the bell and wait for the door to be answered.

Personally I will never use City Link again if I can avoid it.

Royal mail are just as bad, found a parcel dumped on my door step yesterday which said signature required. I was in all day. So do they forge the sigs, when they dump them on the doorstep?
