I have a landline with BT which has a really memorable number, and as I'm the secretary of a local club, this number is on a lot of club publicity material which we don't really want to have to reprint. The problem is I never use my landline for outgoing calls, so I'm looking for a solution that will cost less than my current BT rental package (£27 per month - which includes their voicemail), keep my landline number, and ideally divert all calls to this landline straight to my mobile. I don't want a broadband package as I'm on the end of a long copper line so broadband speeds are dreadful and I already have a fast broadband solution via the mobile network with EE. So far as I can see, there are very few companies aside from BT that offer this kind of solution. I'm wondering if the change-over to VOIP will make this kind of solution any easy to find? What I really want is to keep my landline number and just divert all calls to it to my mobile as cheaply as possible. Any suggestions?

You can port a telephone number to a VOIP provider and then just use VOIP software on your mobile to avoid the cost of transferring the call to your mobile.
One company (https://www.voipfone.co.uk/PB_Porting_Numbers.php) for example charges £20 to do the port and £3 a month to maintain the number (plus vat). Others may well be cheaper.1 -
Thanks, DullGreyGuy - I'll look into it.0

I'm with BT and they've always been really helpful whenever I've phoned with queries and they do their best to help. If they can't help then it hasn't cost you anything as it's a free phone call. Worth a try? Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts.
