Barclays still hold my details 14 years after bankruptcy

Hi all, hope this is the right forum to post
In 2008 I was made bankrupt due to unfortunate circumstances with partner losing all his income. I have just applied and been confirmed for finance with Amazon through Barclays. When I rang them to confirm my phone details they said all my details were still linked to a Barclays account. I have rang Barclays who cant find the account and I have checked the Experian and no account exists. They have said that somewhere my old details will exist and I will have to go into a Bank with ID to get it changed.
Is this normal that a Bank would hold onto your details even after accounts are shut down?

When you went bankrupt was one of the creditors Barclays Bank? As sometimes they retain records for longer than say 6 years in the case of delinquency, if so I would apply for credit with a lender whom was not part of the past bankruptcy.0

Hi yes Barclays was one of the creditors but my bankruptcy was 14 years ago which is why I am surprised they still hold records on me.0

I'd have been a lot more surprised if they DIDN'T still hold sufficient data to identify you.0

Lenders are well within their rights to hold internal black lists as long as they want, if you went bankrupt (for whatever reason) and you cost them money, they have no obligation to give you credit again.0

Ok thank you for the responses. The finance has been accepted its just they have my account linked to an old phone number but they cant trace my account to update the phone number so I've been told to go into a branch with 2 forms of ID to see if they can change it.0
