Meter broken for over two years

I actually have the same issue, and after continually contacting Scotish Power I asked for a letter to be sent confirming I would not be charged for electricity as its not my fault I can't pay! I have the letter and believe me I won't be paying! If they want money for a broken meter ie standing charge then yes I suppose I will pay that. I recently again tried contacting them, and in all honesty I think it's easier to fly to the moon that get them on live chat or on the phone! I've emailed them also and still no reply!Littlegoomba said:About two years ago my lights flickered, there was a brief powercut, then the lights came on. The prepayment meter has had a blank reading ever since.
I've informed Scottish Power about this several times and they say they don't know when it can be fixed.
The Scottish Power online account says I owe £38 since 2020 which can't be right as I am here all the time.
Someone who happens to work for Scottish Power told me you don't need to pay if your meter has been put of action for two years or more. Has anyone heard anything like this?0 -
Ofgem don't deal with consumer complaints, so did you get this info perhaps from the Energy Ombudsman?Littlegoomba said:Success! I said I'd get back if I saved any money. Well, I don't need to pay for any of the electricity I used in 2019, 2020, and 2021. Three years energy for free?
To sum it up: Ofgem say you can't be charged for electricity or gas you used over 12 months ago if you did not receive a bill for it. So it was a bit different to what I had been told but still it worked.
Let's just hope Scottish Power follow through with this. The correspondence they've had with me indicates so.No free lunch, and no free laptop

I was tipped off on it from someone I know who happens to work in Scottish Power. Then I read it on Ofgem's site. It's an article called Energy Back Billing Rules.
"You have to be around for a little while longer before you can post links." this forum says.
Anyway it hasn't reached complaint stage. 😊0 -
BackBilling is a Supply Licence Condition which is designed to prevent consumer bill shock.Littlegoomba said:I was tipped off on it from someone I know who happens to work in Scottish Power. Then I read it on Ofgem's site. It's an article called Energy Back Billing Rules.

Update
SUCCESS!
Not only do I get free electricity for 2021 and 2022. Two years free electricity but thanks to the energy support money, the £400, my bill is in credit. What they were charging me in standing charges for that period was less than the support money, it seems.
To sum it up: I got two years free electricity and they gave me £51.
