Santander Credit card offers

My other half holds a Santander current account and received an email saying she is highly likely to approve for a credit card. 

When she goes to the Santander app in the apply section there is an offer for a credit card.  It looks like it has been pre approved. 

However when she done the eligibility check on there website it came up she is not eligible. 

I wonder how that would work?  It needs to go through a process where it recognises the offer on the account. If applied normally it might get rejected.

It'll have most likely been just a blanket marketing email sent to all - or a certain subset - of customers.  The eligibility checkers are not foolproof - a bank's own checkers are better than the generic third-party ones, but it's not until you apply and they run a full credit check that you'll know for sure.

If she wants a credit card then make an application - there's nothing lost.  If she's rejected, then try one of the sub-prime lenders.  But if she has no real need for a card, then just ignore it.
