SMETS1 meter

Hi
I have a Secure Liberty 100 smets1 electricity meter with E'on next, I also have solar pannels with battery, i am looking to go onto a flexi (time of use) tarriff, so I can charge my batteries from grid on the cheaper rate on low solar days.
E'on next tell me they don't have the ability to change the SSC remotely and I will have to pay £157 for them to come and do it, bearing in mind they are taking a meter reading every 30 minutes. Been informed by meter manufacturer that my meter is already TOU enabled
So even though my meter is Time of use enabled, they want me to pay £157 for the failure of their technical system to do this remotely
Do you think its wrong that the consumer should pay for any costs due to the fact a supplier can't change the SSC

‘SSC’ - that’s a new one on me? Has your meter been ‘adopted by and enrolled on’ the DCC network?
  • Standard Settlement Class/Configuration. It determines how many rates an electricity meter has and what times they are in operation. For example the most common example for E7 meters is 0151 and this means the off peak hours are from 12:30am to 7:30am.

Thank you. If we are talking about smart meters, they have 4 registers. I am not sure how an installer visit would help as tariffs/times are set remotely.

I think it's wrong that a customer should expect things to be changed for free at a whim.

What is the supplier actually changing other than the tariff? I am still struggling to understand what a ‘man in a van’ can actually do when it’s a smart meter?

Not really sure, but "my energy supplier wants to charge me for sending a man out to do something that I have requested" doesn't seem like a particular problem to me.

If the OP switched to Octopus and its Agile tariff with 48 by 30 minute unit prices or their E7 tariff , it would charge the OP nothing for a tariff change.

I think that someone is quoting for a meter change which might be necessary if a consumer wanted to move from a single rate to dual rate tariff when a standard single rate analogue meter is fitted.
