Kitchen Installation Cost

Currently looking to get a new kitchen and looking for some advice! Initially got a quote from Wickes which was about £9000 for the kitchen itself and £5000 for installation (with their in house installation service). Then I got a quote from Magnet which was £8000 for the kitchen. She gave me the details of some fitters and said if I contacted them independently it would be the most cost-effective way of doing it. As a ballpark, she gave me a ‘worst case scenario’ figure of £3000 for full installation, including plumbing and electrics. The fitters she gave me the details of didn’t have much availability, so I spoke to a neighbour who is a builder and he put me in touch with a kitchen fitter he works with regularly and recommended. This guy came round to give a quote and suggested I look at a Howdens kitchen, which I’m currently doing. However his quote for installation was £4900 (including plumbing, electrics, tiling and flooring). This is pretty much exactly the same as Wickes would charge, and I was under the impression I’d pay a premium for them doing it, but a local fitter would be cheaper. Am I being ripped off? It’s a fairly small kitchen and there’s nothing difficult or unusual about the fitting, I’m also only looking at a standard new kitchen and nothing expensive or fancy. Haven’t ever had any work like this done before so any advice appreciated.

What did the Wicks fitting include? I know when we were looking the fitters own service required all the prework to be done inc the electrics/plumbing etc so it was simply plug and play plus didnt include tiling or flooring

I've never had a kitchen fitted, only self fitted or made my own cabinets and fitted.
I would be concerned about having a separate company contracted by you to supply and install if there is a problem.
If the Wickes quote is a single materials and labour contract you have not problem with finger pointing.

Its likely to be less finger pointing but when I had quotes from Kitchen Company fitters they expect all piping, electrical points etc all to be done before they arrive and so there can still be finger pointing if they argue a plug socket is in the wrong place etc.
