Blocking up and making good (both sides) the current window.
Create 2 new windows.
Divide room into 2, with doors, skirting boards etc.
New flooring and decor.
See what your other quotes come back as, but £10K isn't raising my eyebrows (and I'm nowhere near London).1 -
Thank you that's very helpful. Silvertabby said:
Thank you that's very helpful! The latest builder who came round said 5500 and said we'd get two 10 by 7 bedrooms after split do you reckon that's correct? The guy who quoted 10000 didn't measure up only by 'eye' but said we'd have two very small rooms about the size of the bathroom and he gave be the impression that he didn't think it was worth doing. Problem is I desperately need two single bedrooms for my children. Do you think this room can be split?Blocking up and making good (both sides) the current window.

The difficulty seems to be access to the second bedroom without going through the first

Perhaps I'm wrong here but could we not build a landing where the built in cupboards are giving individual access to the rooms , split the bedroom length ways replace the large window with two singles?MikeJXE said:The difficulty seems to be access to the second bedroom without going through the first0 -
Of course my only other option is to convert the garage into hopefully two single rooms but of course one room would have a oil boiler in it!0

Not unless you can levitate over the open stairwell you couldn't get to a landing in place of the built ins.mylifemyrules said:

Is this a house you are thinking of buying? If it is I would strike it off your list, its not a layout to do what you want. If you do, the £10k doesn't feel too far off the mark but you will end up with either one bedroom off the other or losing space to create a larger landing next to the stairwell and then one smaller room that the other (losing the built ins into the smaller room, or having two odd shaped rooms if trying to even the space out. The layout just doesn't really work well.0 -
Err no, aren't the cupboards over a void above the stairs ? The top of the stairs are at the other endmylifemyrules said:

Fair enough. It looks likes it will have to be the garage then0
