Water dripping from fascia board

Options
We are in the process of finishing a single storey, flat roof extension. I've noticed that, on a rainy day like today, some rain water gathers on the fascia boards at the far end and drips down. Some of this landing on the external window sill and is audible inside the extension.

The guttering is on the right hand side of the extension, as the roof 'fall' goes that way. There is no guttering on the side where water is gathering on the fascia.

Basically, is there anything that can be done to stop the water gathering/dripping off the fascias? I have a feeling it might get annoying when we start using the extension!

The builder has got the direction of fall wrong on the roof, or hasn't installed a timber fillet below the roofing material to direct the water towards the gutter.  Either way, you need to get the builder to put things right before they get final payment.
  • Thank you. I thought it might be something like that but, visually at least, the fall looks OK. It looks like the drips are from rainwater landing on the fascia, 'sticking' to it and then dripping down and then off, it doesn't look to be coming over from the roof itself. I may be wrong with that.

I wondered if installing guttering along that edge above the window, which joins with the guttering to the right, might help? Not sure if that's the done thing, but the fascias under the guttering on the side look dry as they are sheltered.

    Does the roof have chippings?

If not there is a possibility pooled water is being blown over the edge.

A photo from the window overlooking the roof would be useful.

Thanks - there's no chippings on the roof. Here are a few photos from upstairs - sorry they aren't the best but it really is a grim day!

  • Thank you for taking a look, really appreciate it. I think it's the quality of the photos but on the right hand side and far end, water check trims do look to be installed. They are raised up like a lip and even though it's raining hard, water doesn't look to be running off the roof.

Not sure on the drip edge though, not sure how it should look so you could be right.

Agree with the above, the edge strip detailing looks poor, the edges don't look high enough and the edges arent tied into the covering, so water may be getting in gaps.

I've just looked at a neighbour's flat roof which was stripped and redone a couple of years ago. No edge strip on the gutter end, but the side edges are about 75mm high, similar to the link below.  notice in the photo how the edge strip and roof covering appear to be one component:

  • Just wanted to say thanks again to everyone who replied to this. The builder came the other day to take a look and agreed it might be water coming through a gap in the edge trim. They are coming this week to make sure all is properly sealed. t

They also said they could put a bit of 'lip', for want of a better word, on the bottom of the fascia board so if any water does drip off just from the rain hitting it, it is directed away from the window sill so we don't get the dripping noise inside.

    Thanks again!
