HUGE problem with OVO Energy need urgent advice

If your were being billed on estimates, and then you give an actual reading (or give them a reason to think the estimates were wrong), every estimate used since your last accurate reading can and should be changed. This is what happened.
If you had been underestimated all the time, and then an actual reading showed you were short, would you expect to be charged for all of the missing part at todays rate, or would you expect them to try and guess how much of the underestimate was at each price?1 -
You are correct in saying that they are underestimating your current meter reading.
Your problem is that even with the underestimated usage you are still in debt. That means that the real debt is even higher than they currently claim, not lower.
The whole scenario is complicated by your meter going around the clock.
The monetary values you are giving don't make any sense. The difference between the 93000 reading and the 10558 reading is almost 18000KWh, or £5000 at the old April cap, but you write the difference in their calculation is less than £440 (1761-1325 debt).
You will need to get some more information here,
But lets look at the real figures you deliverred.
By my calculation you are using more than 19KWh electricity per day (2288KWh between 15/07/2022 and 11/11/2022 = 119 days). This would equal 7017KWh per year. That was over £2000 at the old cap, and more than £2600 at the new EPG.
So without even looking at your gas usage you were underpaying with the £150 direct debit, your new direct debit just for electricity needs to be £220, that does not include gas, and that does not include paying off an existing debt.
Unfortunately the £500 direct debit request does not sound unreasonable.1 -
yes there are a few different questions.
one is what did you use (do you have a meter reading from any point before working from home 18 months ago or did ovo send a meter reader at some point before)?
another is what have you paid since you last had a manual (not estemated) reading?
then we can work out what the debt should be and you can use the info we give you to talk to ovo to get your bills sorted faster.
THEN we can help you look at your use annually (to help you work out what your dd should be going forward) and see if we can help you work out ways you can cut back (because your electric use seems enormous if your not living in a huge property crypto mining so there's probably some easy ways you can cut your use to make it more affordable)
but we can only do that if you give us the info we are asking for.Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott
It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
