Tesco Bank Credit & link to Clubcard Account

I recently took out a Tesco Bank Credit Card. I didn't enter my Clubcard details when making the application. I'm planning on making a big purchase tomorrow. I cannot see anywhere in the Tesco Bank Credit Card App to link my Clubcard account to my credit card.

Can I do it myself or do I need to call them?

You need to call the Clubcard team to add the Clubcard number from the credit card - on the back of the card - to your Clubcard account. 0800 591 688

As above, you'll need to call them to get your Clubcard linked to the credit card.  But in the meantime, is there any reason why you can't just swipe your ordinary clubcard when you make a purchase?

In the mean time spending on the card will accrue points but they are stored in the ether as there is no personal account to allocate them to.  As soon as the card is registered to your Clubcard account those points will move across.

In Tesco yes but that will not allocate the points from the CC spend to your account.  They are in addition to normal Tesco Clubcard points.

Good point - my apologies, I assumed they meant they were buying something in Tesco, but of course you're right if they're using the credit card to buy from somewhere else
  • They'll normally allocate a new 'normal' Clubcard number to you if you never provided one.
This is so they have somewhere to put the points if you close off your Tesco Bank products.
Simply call up the Clubcard helpline and merge them.

Tesco Bank always generate a new Clubcard number for every credit card (and Clubcard Pay+, and previous products too such as current accounts) you take with them. Bank Clubcard numbers are shorter than usual ones and have a different prefix. They also collect points at a different rate in filling stations (1 pt per £ rather than 1 pt per £2 as with other Clubcards).

If you give them your existing Clubcard number when you apply, they will assign the new Clubcard number to your existing account. If you don't a new account will be opened, which can be merged with an existing one manually as you state.

The Clubcard numbers persist beyond the life of the Bank product they were created for too, I still regularly use one relating to a long-closed credit card and I've also got 3 relating to closed current accounts. The points all hit the same account.

I have got 4 on my account, 1 Clubcard and 3 bank.  MrsM has 2 Clubcard and 2 bank.  Both accounts are linked so points collected using any of those numbers all go to the one account and vouchers have both our names and main Clubcard numbers on them.  For some reason they are using one of MrsM's old bank numbers as her main card. When we look at our accounts we can each see the total points collected but only see the individual points breakdown for our own cards.
