Car tax renewal beware!

Went to tax my car online and this very official looking link appeared at the top of my search. https://vehicletax.service.gov.uk/ Completed all the details including my card details but quickly became suspicious 

On phoning my bank I discovered they had only taken 50p out my account but it could have been worse 
The company is called vehicle information or vehicle tax service 
Needless to say the company have not responded To my emails

That is the official page, gov.uk.

Not sure what the problem is or what you did. Maybe you went to a different site.

Are you sure it was the site you linked to as that is the official .gov site

The one you have linked is the correct site - but you might have google searched it - and hit the first link rather than the government page - if you did it on a laptop/desktop browser - have a look at your history to see which was the 'Actual' site you visited. (There's a couple that get mentioned in the forums regularly).

note  the difference to  https://vehicletax.service.gov.uk/

yes I know when you click the link it takes you the same site  just seemed odd the 50p charge

Both the first and second links are correct - but the second is a beta service as highlighted at the top of its page and that won't be the link that charged the OP 50p. Not sure yet what the actual site was - hopefully the OP can check their history and advise.

They're both on the gov.uk service.  So both are official resources.
